Surviving Winter Sniffles

It's that time of year! We are all fighting off the latest bug that gets around at work and schools. I always know when winter is coming by the cough I get religiously each year around September/October. I know that I am not the only one who fights off a cough, or sniffles every year, so I just wanted to write a little blog about some essential oil products and blends that I use almost daily from about September - March to help fight off the common cold and other cold symptoms around this time of year. Let's be real, I have enough health problem, a cold is not something else I need on top of it all. So I hope you find this information helpful and beneficial to your life during this winter season as I do mine!

Preventing colds during winter time is the most important thing to do! DO NOT wait until you are sick or start feeling symptoms. By then the virus or bacteria could already be in your system. Then, next thing you know, you start getting a slight cough and minor headache, which leads to a full blown cold! Or even worse, the Flu! Along with taking a daily vitamin, fish oil, magnesium (great for stress btw), I have added several doTERRA's products into my daily routine this winter to help fight off the common cold, sniffles, a cough, you name it! And I wanted to share them with all of you!

On Guard soft gels are perfect for the winter season and is AMAZING for helping preventing a cold. On Guard supports healthy immune and respiratory function, protects against environmental threats, supports the body’s natural antioxidant defenses, promotes healthy circulation, all while giving off an energizing and uplifting smell! I also like to diffuse the oil blend when I am feeling a little stuffy. To me, the smell has a cinnamon smelling base, which I think is perfect for the Holiday Season as well!

Key Ingredients and Benefits to On Guard Oil Blend

Wild Orange Peel: protects the body against seasonal threats*

Clove Bud: supports a healthy immune system*

Black Pepper Seed: supports healthy circulation*

Cinnamon Bark/Leaf: promotes healthy immune function*

Eucalyptus Leaf: purifying and cleansing properties*

Oregano Leaf: helps maintain a healthy immune system*

Rosemary Flower/Leaf: may help support the digestive system*

Melissa Leaf: may help support healthy immune system*

I have also incorporated Tea Tree into my daily routine to help keep away and fight off viruses and bacteria sneaking around my home. Tea Tree can be used in so many different ways and added to your daily routine to get rid of those nasty toxic cleaning supplies! Tea Tree purifies your skin, counter tops, and the air. I add 1-2 drops of the oil into my face cleanser every time I wash my face.

As much as I loved my face cleanser alone, adding a drop Tea Tree to it has helped make my skin feel more fresh and clean without the little sticky after-feeling. Using Tea Tree for cleaning your counter tops of perfect for fighting off viruses that could be lingering around. Also I love to diffuse Tea Tree while cleaning. You can smell it overcome your space with a peaceful, cleansing aroma.

Tee Tree Oil Uses

-For skin irritations, apply 1–2 drops of Tea Tree essential oil onto affected area.

-Combine 1–2 drops with your facial cleanser for added cleansing properties, or apply to skin after shaving.

-Apply to fingernails and toenails after showering to purify and keep nails looking healthy.

-Add a few drops to a spray bottle with water and use on surfaces to clean them.

The final thing I would like to tell you about for fighting off the winter sniffles is an amazing blend I created myself! When I know I am going to be out around a lot of people, whether it is while out shopping, a concert, or just hanging out with a group of friends, I like to roll on what I call "Bacteria Battler". Bacteria Battler Roll On is something I came up with that you can carry in your pocket with you wherever you go. It is created from On Guard, Lavender, and Wild Orange essential oils. With these three ingredients combined, you get such an amazing aroma while helping fight off bacteria and germs that might get onto your body.

Lavender Oil Uses

-Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet at bedtime.

-Keep a bottle of Lavender on hand to soothe occasional skin irritations.

-Freshen your linen closet, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender with water in a spray bottle.

-Take internally to reduce anxious feelings.

-Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts.

Wild Orange Oil Uses

-Use in an all-purpose spray to cleanse and purify surfaces.

-Add a drop to your water every day for a burst of flavor and to promote overall health.

-Diffuse to uplift mood and energy levels and to freshen the air.

-For an energizing boost, dispense one to two drops in the palm of your hand along with equal parts Peppermint and Frankincense.

-Rub palms together and inhale deeply from palms, then rub on the back of neck

There are so many different cold medicines and over the counter drugs that we can get AFTER we already the flu or a cold. We need to focus on preventing these rather than just masking them and treating them after they are already making us miss out on our daily activities. Using On Guard internally to keep everything working smoothly and staying strong and Tea Tree externally to fight off viruses/bacteria, along with my Bacteria Battler Blend, I will be in for a (hopefully) illness free winter! I hope you found this information helpful and I hope you use some of these tips in your every day life!
